October 31, 2011 13 Nights of Hallowe'en 2011: Night 13 The Amityville Horror (2005)
Happy Hallowe'en! I hope everyone has enjoyed these thirteen nights. The Amityville Horror (2005) is here on this night for a reason. It's a pretty awesome remake. I don't know if it's my top pick as far as the presented remakes go or not, but it is such a classic story I wanted it for Hallowe'en night. This Amityville is written by Scott Kosar from Night 3 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Night 10: The Crazies (2010). Andrew Douglas directed the movie. Andrew is sort of a movie newcomer and it remains to be seen if he will come back to horror. Odd choice by the studio, but it certainly worked out well.
Ryan Reynolds plays George Lutz. Ryan has been in an episode of The X Files (1993) in 1996, Big Monster on Campus (2000), Blade: Trinity (2004), and will be starring in R.I.P.D. (2013). Melissa George plays Kathy Lutz. Melissa can be seen in Dark City (1998),
Turistas (2006), 30 Days of Night (2007), Triangle (2009), and will be in Bag of Bones (2011) the Stephen King mini-series. Next come the Lutz children. Jesse James was in a 1999 episode of The X Files, an episode of Angel (1999) in 2000, Fear of the Dark (2003)--I thought it was quite a fun movie--The Darkroom (2006), and Jumper (2008). Jimmy Bennett was in Orphan (2009). Chloë Grace Moretz likes her horror and was in Wicked Little Things (2006), Room 6 (2006), Hallowed Ground (2007), The Eye (2008), Let Me In (2010) as Abby, and will be in Dark Shadows (2012). That's quite the list given her age, and it's only the horrors. She was also Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass (2010).
Rachel Nichols is on hand as a babysitter. Rachel starred in the TV series The Inside (2005), was in The Woods (2006), starred in P2 (2007), and was in the Conan the Barbarian (2011) remake. Philip Baker Hall is the priest, and was in Ghostbusters II (1989),
an episode of Millennium (1996) in 1997 and another in 1998, the Psycho (1998) remake, and one of my faves, Lost Souls (2000). Then to round out the acting staff... Annabel Armour was in Contagion (2011). Danny McCarthy was in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Part 2 (1996), Dragonfly (2002), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011). Marie Lynn will be in a web series called Friday the 13th: The Obsession (2011) that may or may not have launched, and with the same unmentioned status a movie(?) called Afraid of Sunrise (2011).
