October 30, 2011 13 Nights of Hallowe'en 2011: Night 12 Friday the 13th (2009)
Tonight I chose Friday the 13th (2009). I thought this was a great reboot. It's not really a remake since it condenses the first three original movies in the franchise into just the first part even as it builds its own foundation to construct on top of. This Friday's writers are Damian Shannon and Mark Swift who both also wrote Freddy vs. Jason (2003). It is directed by Marcus Nispel the director from Night 3 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Marcus also directed the Conan the Barbarian (2011) remake.
Up first in front of the camera we have Jared Padalecki from Night 4. I'll repeat myself. Jared stars in TV's Supernatural (2005), and can be seen in House of Wax (2005). Next is Danielle Panabaker from Night 10. Danielle was in
John Carpenter's The Ward (2010), and will be in Piranha 3DD (2012). Amanda Righetti plays Jared's sister and can be seen as the star of Return to House on Haunted Hill (2007), which is possibly even better than the first movie, and sad to say I prefer either of them to the original House on Haunted Hill (1959) despite that being a Vincent Price film--Vincent is fine and the house is awesome from the outside. Travis Van Winkle plays Danielle's boyfriend and was in Transformers (2007), and Asylum (2008). Derek Mears is Jason Vorhees. Derek has notably been in Disney's The Haunted Mansion (2003), Wes Craven's Cursed (2005), Pro-Life (2006) for Masters of Horror (2005), The Hills Have Eyes II (2007), Predators (2010), and will be in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2012).
Aaron Yoo is Jason fodder, and was in Disturbia (2007), and uncredited in A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) back on Night 8. Jonathan Sadowski can also be seen in three episodes of the first
season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008). Julianna Guill was also in Altitude (2010). Ben Feldman was also in Cloverfield (2008). Arlen Escarpeta was in Final Destination 5 (2011). Nick Mennell plays Amanda's boyfriend and was in My Little Eye (2002), Night 7's Halloween (2007), The Black Waters of Echo's Pond (2009)--with Danielle Harris--and The Lost Tribe (2010). America Olivo was in The Thirst: Blood War (2008), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), stars in Neighbor (2009), and will be in something called No One Lives (2012). Kyle Davis started off in an episode of Angel (1999) in 2001, then was in The Hitcher (2007), Resurrection Mary (2007), something I've never heard of before called The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu (2009), and in an episode of American Horror Story (2011). Last for the onscreen talent is Nana Visitor as Pamela Voorhees. Nana was also in The Sentinel (1977), and Babysitter Wanted (2008).
