September 12, 2012 Happy Off-Date Anniversary to the Dark Corners
It was summer; August to be precise. It was hot, and bright, but yet as with all light in spaces with anything in them there were shadows. The darkest shadows were in the corners. It was 2005. 2005. Stop and say that out loud. Two thousand and five. The one saving grace is it was this millennium at least. I had DSL, but I shudder to think what the speed was for it. I had my own domain name for my company's site and by the end of the first month of posts I had updated the site, though who knows from what to what, or how many revisions have come since.
Yes, it was the first month of R.G. Male's Dark Corners.
It certainly lived up to its description of presenting a "chaos of thoughts" and "general train of thought". It also had more than its fair share of role-playing game talk, even if looking back at it no one likely had the slightest idea of what I was talking about in specific. Also of particular interest was an early mention of self-publishing being only suitable for a role-playing game and not for general fiction. My, how things have changed. I can't say it didn't see it coming, but it ended up being less of a fight than it seemed it would require back then.
I posted a lot more often back then, but that was because for the first while it was the only blog that I posted.
Here is the big news, and I did not know it when I decided this would be the week to look back. This should be the 400th post! If you have been here from the start then congratulations! You deserve a bigger pat on the back than I am considering giving myself. It's been a wild 7 years (and a month).
