Wild Wild West

Wild Wild West tells the story of Captain James West of the U.S. Army under President Ulysses S. Grant and U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon as they battle the nefarious Dr. Arliss Loveless.  The straightforward black army Captain and the eccentric white inventor Marshall travel across the west in search of Dr. Arliss a madman who is bent on taking over America with the aid of his diabolical machines.  He has kidnapped several of the greatest scientists to build him an ultimate war machine and now that he has it his first step is to assassinate President Grant.  Only West and Gordon can possibly stand in his way if they can manage to set aside their differences and work together as a team.

Wild Wild West is a rootin' tootin' bang 'em up, drop down and drag'em out, special effect laden ride through the west that never was.  From the phonograph sound piece in Bloodbath McGrath's missing earhole to the giant mechanical spider that was in every trailer for the film this movie is a spectacle of special effects.  The film manages to be more than just that though with a mix of wild action, zany gags, and buddy story.  The acting is very good in this film, the script is zippy with a good moving pace, and dialogue that isn't too corny.  It is more action movie than it is comedy but still it has a few gags without being overbalancing or taking away from the thrill and danger.  Overall a good movie to sit and feast your eyes on for under two hours.
