Valentine
Valentine is a teen slasher film revolving around a group of college
age girls who find themselves targeted by a serial killer that sends
them gruesome Valentine cards. It seems that their stalker is a
ghost from their past, a kid, a nerd that they treated poorly who was
driven down a path of civil disorder and madness after a particular
incident. The only problem is that after so many years the killer
could be just about any guy. Everywhere they turn they find men
who could be the killer but how to tell who's just a jerk, and who's
really homicidal. One by one the girls are slaughtered by the
mystery man with the cherub mask. They have to figure out who it
is and help the authorities put an end to the nightmare.
Valentine is a better than average slasher film with some inventive
plot twists and some really great tension. It succeeds quite well
in keeping the audience guessing especially as things tighten up near
the end. It's not perfect but a much better effort than many
other films. The acting is fairly decent, the direction is
straightforward, and the pace is not bad. Some people will want
to compare it to Scream but while Valentine is good it's not that good.
There is some nice characterisation and a lot of good empathy in
the film. It all pulls together to make a good addition to the
sub-genre.
