Universal Soldier 2 (Canadian Sequel)
For some reason there were three sequels made in Canada to the
original Jean Claude Van Damme film Universal Soldier before Hollywood
made its own sequel. This review is for the first Canadian sequel.
The last of the original film was recreated using the new cast
(no Jean Claude this time) and continues on from there. The ex-Universal Soldier is
going to try to reintegrate himself into normal society with the help
of his female reporter friend and his parents. As he begins to
settle into a normal life factions involved in the Universal Soldier
project are beginning anew but they also want to retreive the remaining
old models. He ends up back in the clutches of the black ops
group and it is up to the reporter woman to save him.
This film has some good things in it but isn't really special and
has an apparent lower production value. Some things look a little
more like sets than they really should. The exterior shots are
nice but not really gripping. The musical score is strong and
omni-present but in a good way that fits with the almost camp of the
film. The movie also has a lot of soundtrack music that is a
little over the top in some places. Still it is a fair outing
even if it lacks some of the feel that pervaded the first film.
