The Specialist
The Specialist is a good action film for a past his prime action
star such as Stalone. It doesn't push its believability and still
comes through with the excitement. A man who worked for the CIA
as an infiltrator and explosives expert has left the agency and now
works freelance helping people remove evil from their lives and the
world. The Specialist checks everything out and if it meets his
moral standards and criteria for his personal safety (you collect
enemies doing this sort of work) then the targets are as good as dead.
This time he has questions about the job before him but gets
pulled into it by his emotions.
The Specialist is a decently paced film with a solid mix of intrigue
and explosive action. The characters are memorable and
distinctive. The plot is sort of complicated in the sense of
discerning the motives of some of the characters but otherwise straight
forward and easy to follow. The antagonists are sort of
stereotypical but well portrayed and it is fun to see them squirm when
the tables are turned on them and they are the ones being manipulated,
hunted, and such.
The filming locations are run of the mill being neither too
memorable nor distracting. The musical score is presumably
fitting or non-present as I have no recollection of it all.
Overall its a good time waster and well worth a sit in front of
the television.
