Reign of Fire
A construction crew working on an underground project in London
uncovers an ancient predator formerly thought to be myth, a
fire-breathing dragon. The beast makes its way to the surface
and from there unleashes its kind upon the world. Twenty years
later much of the world lies in ruins, scorched and beaten by the
dragon menace. A man who was witness to the escape of the first
dragon is now the leader of a community far from the city. This
man, Quinn, is doing the best he can as he and the people gathered
around him try to eke out an existence in the scorched countryside.
Then one day along comes an American named Van Zan who is head
of a military group that has been killing the dragons and they have a
plan to end the conflict for good.
Reign of Fire is part action movie, part disaster film, and
part fantasy. The special effects are good for the most part.
The locations and sets are totally convincing and go a long way
towards seasoning the film. The pace is mostly fast moving
without being too busy. The acting is fair for the most part
with an excellent and moving portrayal by Matthew McConaughey as Van
Zan. The two main characters are a little deeper than a lot of
action film characters and the supporting cast is better than a lot of
movies in general. Pretty good bang for the buck.
