Outbreak
A village in Africa is suffering the effects of some sort of
quick acting and deadly virus. The U.S. military is called in to
handle the situation but it is too late. Meanwhile unbeknownst
to anyone a monkey carrying the virus has been smuggled into the U.S.A.
and now a small town is infected and the numbers could sky rocket.
Colonel Sam Daniels of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute
for Infectious Diseases and his ex-wife who is with the Centre for
Disease Control rush to stop its deadly spread. There is more
than meets the eye to the situation however and the virus may not be
the only thing to pose an extreme risk to the people of the small town.
Conspiracy and happenstance have collided in the worst possible
way and now it is up to the two of them to stop the terrible death
knell.
Outbreak is a wide sweeping drama about what would happen if a
terribly virulent and effective virus were to grip a small corner of
the U.S. nation and threaten the entire country. The directing
on the film is fine with good straightforward scenes that are not
distracting to the audience. The acting is fairly good with a
decent script. The musical score picks up and carries the
emotional impact of the tension, and the humanity of the "good guys"
and their plight. The locations and sets all look good without
being flashy but are pretty typical and don't stand out on their own.
The pace was a little slow in places and the plot maybe just a
tad too apparent and lacking any real mystery. Still the film
was pretty good for the type of story it presented and it didn't
require too many brain cells to get into it and follow along.
