Ghosts of Mars - John Carpenter
Ghosts of Mars is John Carpenter's newest dark action movie.
One by one mining colonies on Mars (the only kind of colony
actually) are coming up mysteriously empty. Something has been
unleashed on the red planet and the humans are paying for it. A
group of Mars Police officers are on their way to a colony to pick up a
most dangerous criminal, Desolation Williams, charged with the murder
of several people. He supposedly cut off his victim's heads and
hung them upside down. When the police get to the colony they
find out that something more sinister than a single criminal is at
work. To get out alive they are going to have to team up with
Desolation especially as they begin to disappear or die one by one as
the terrible truth is revealed.
Ghosts of Mars is pretty much a pure action flick with only
slightest traces of even an attempt at being scary. There is
lots of blood, and other related violence but no attempt is really
made to have any tension or fear. The acting is fairly decent
and there is some fancy attempts at directing which for the most part
are just kind of distracting. So, once the viewer gets in action mode
this is a pretty good movie but not necessarily anything that will
evoke the need to watch it multiple times unless one is a fan of
Natasha Henstridge. John Carpenter provided some of the musical
score and the work is all right but certainly nothing brilliant like
say what he did for his Halloween.
