Final Destination
Final Destination is about a middle of the road high school guy who
has a premonition while waiting for the plane to leave that his class
is taking to Paris France as a part of their French class. In
this premonition he sees inconsequential things happen followed by a
deadly disaster in mid-air. He comes out of the premonition and the
inconsequential things begin to happen. He freaks out and starts
shouting about how the plane is going to explode. A few people
get up and start arguing about his statements and the bunch of them
end up thrown off of the plane including both of the teachers.
The airline lets only one of the teachers get back on and after
a short discussion the actual French teacher goes. The plane
takes off and does indeed explode. However unlike the usual
story of this sort there is a serious twist. Death won't take
no for an answer and soon the survivors begin dying one by one, and
the guy who had the premonition keeps getting them and the fun begins.
This is an excellent movie and an incredible breath of fresh air
for the teen horror and actual horror genres. The acting is very
good and there is real suspense in the film including some real pulse
pounding scenes. There is good characterisation, the directing
is bang on and the film has good style and substance. There are
some excellent thrills and a number of real chills. The death
scenes are imaginative and quite sinister and once it starts the movie
is quite the roller coaster ride. The characters are mostly
likeable, and the believability is quite high. There was not
anything too predictable aside from one of the scenes and it is a lot
of fun watching through the false starts to the build up of each death
which gives the film some nice added tension on top of that generated
by the premise and the character interaction as it becomes clear death
doesn't like to be cheated.
