Boogeymen: The Killer Compilation
Boogeymen is not an actual movie but a DVD with clips and tonnes of
information about a select number of horror villains. To the
average fan it might be a good rental but perhaps not the best buy.
It bears mentioning though for anyone who considers themselves a
horror aficionado or a dedicated fan. It includes clips from
Hellraiser, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,
Scream, Candyman, Halloween, Jason Goes to Hell, and a bunch more.
Each gives details on the basic story behind each "boogeyman"
and a little bit about them and then shows a clip from their movie.
The disc also includes a commentary from Robert "Freddy Krueger"
Englund who is pretty knowledgeable and gives some nice insights.
As well the view can turn on something called FlixFacts which
displays trivia about each film at the bottom of the screen while the
clip rolls. There are also trailers, more movie trivia, and a
couple of games to test your knowledge of horror movies.
For the big time fan this thing is like Christmas day in Horror
Heaven. There is even a hidden boogeyman but I'll say no more
than that. The DVD is unrated. Some of the scenes are
graphic, others are not. There are some spoilers such as showing
scenes from the end of The Guardian, The Puppetmaster, and Psycho.
Seeing the clips on their own was only so-so interesting except
for the couple of movies that I hadn't seen. Watching it with the
commentary was much more interesting. I have to watch it with
the FlixFacts turned on still but I did see a sample and it was good.
One of the games is "Name That Frame" and shows a still shot
from one of the movies and a multiple choice as to which movie it
belongs to. There are over 100 still shots to test your
knowledge. This disc is packed with fun and can provide hours of
enjoyment. It is a great gift, I know because that is how I
received it. Remember, look around for hidden stuff too.
