Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (Pretty Soldier Sailormoon)
Super S TV
Sailormoon Super S is the fourth TV season of the popular
series. The Deadmoon Circus has come to Tokyo, but it is nothing
like the normal circus. No one even notices the bright big top,
and the shows are for the performers themselves only. The shows
are all about only one thing; finding the "Golden Crystal" hidden
by the Pegasus in the dreams of one who is pure. The old
woman ringmaster, Ziorconia, sends out Hawks Eye, Tigers Eye, and Fish
Eye, the top billing performers, to search the dream mirrors of the
innocent. It's up to Sailormoon and the other Senshi to put a stop to
them and save the Pegasus before the Golden Crystal is found.
There is a lot more that goes on but saying more would risk
spoilers.
This review will be for the uncut subbed version with Japanese
audio. Sailormoon Super S continues on in the traditions set by
the previous seasons. The villains have a lot more of the spotlight,
(pun intended) or so it seems. The Amazon Trio are an interesting
bunch and much more like the earlier sub-villains of the first and
second season. There is a good sense of who the Trio are and they
are nicely individual and fleshed out. The animation is great as
always. The music is similarly superb. The episodes are
still of the monster of the day type but there is more going on
otherwise in this season. There is some good furthering of our
favourite characters, and although they are the bad guys there is a lot
of character development in the villains. As usual there is
turmoil and strife, agonising decisions, and beautiful expressions of
emotions. The voice actresses are still excellent. This
is just another excellent season.
For your reference I place this as number two on my list.
The reason for this ranking is based on things that I could only
describe if I really wanted to give up spoilers for the season.
I can say though that the bulk of the reason for placing this
second is because of the deep emotional presence of this season.
You'll have to read on to see how I placed the other seasons.
