Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon (Pretty Soldier Sailormoon)
R TV Season
Sailormoon R is the second TV season of the popular series.
The season is divided into two sections. This first finds
Usagi Tsukino (Serena in the dub from DIC) with no memory of being
the pretty soldier Sailormoon or the battle against the forces of Queen
Beryl and Metalia. She is once more just a regular girl living
her regular life. It is a peace that will not last long.
Two aliens have crash landed on Earth and they require the life
energy of humans to live and to feed their fiendish plant, the Doom
Tree. Usagi and her friends will once more be called upon to
protect the planet and the life of everyone on it. The second
section of this season revolves around the appearance of evil marauders
from the future. Sailormoon and the other Senshi are called upon
to save not only one world but two.
This review will be for the dubbed version as created and
shown by the American company DIC. Sailormoon R embodies all of
the same qualities as the first season but with less of the horror
focus and hallmarks. There is a great lot of character growth and
depth. It still follows the monster of the day format but if it's
possible has even more story going on in the background than the first
season. The animation is the same with that wonderful style of
pastels and watercolour-like backdrops. As typical for the genre
the Senshi's magical attacks grow and change becoming more visually
impressive even as they become more powerful to deal with tougher
opponents. The musical score is identical for the most part to
the first season. The lyrical soundtrack is even better with
more emotion and deeper lyrics.
This second season of Sailormoon is even better than the first.
The two complete story lines makes for a big change and cuts down
on the repetition a fair bit. The growth of the story within the
story also helps in this matter as well. For your reference I
place this as number one on my list. You'll have to read on to
see how I placed the other seasons. Please use the main column
