The Mysterious Play, known in Japan as Fushigi Yugi, is another of the style of anime that involve people being sent, or appearing in another world than their own.  Fushigi Yugi is a mostly comedic, shoujo series with fantasy elements.

The Mysterious Play in this reviewer's opinion is a good example of this sort of series.  It has the correct elements, and is fun to watch.  On the downside to me it seems to be lacking something.  As a matter of personal taste the comedy detracts from some well set up dramatic scenes.  As a more general criticism, a lack of history or background to the characters detracts from creating the emotional attachment that makes a series more enjoyable.

I have seen half of the series as of 11/15/99 and speak only of what I have viewed so far.
