Details of Re-installation

I'd like to say that my Daz installation is now complete with all of my sets and scenes, but alas that is not the case. I have a couple folders of installations yet to run. I've been working around them without difficulty, but I should still install them. While rebuilding the software I discovered a handful of items that claimed they needed something else installed first. This seems kind of odd given that I ran everything in pretty much the same order that I did the first time. I started with the oldest backup discs and moved forward month by month. It was a good choice to keep everything in chronological buying order. Yet I ran into those snags. I also likely repeated myself because I have two different editions of some items because I've been picking up releases for quite some time. Many of the older ones are now available only as Zip files that have to be merged with existing folders on your machine.

The idea that items and materials and everything else can just be dumped on the system and then sorted out by Daz means that I might get everything installed and then dump all of the installed folders to new backup discs and save a lot of time and effort next time I have to rebuild Daz on a new computer. I'll still likely have to run the Metadata installs for those generation of items and scenes that have them. Although... it may just be a matter of backing them up once I find their folders. The one issue with backing up this file dump is that it will require placing them on the same drive letter as I have this time. Had I done this previously I would have been stuck running all of the installations again anyway because I used to keep program files on the main drive, and now with the way that Windows works that is a limited size drive and everything had to go on the secondary drive--breaking all of my old saved files.

I'll have to see how many DVDs this alternate backup would take. An estimate puts it at nearly as many as the current number of install discs. That is a lot of discs already. I have a tonne of stuff, especially since I never turn down a freebie and it's been years of collecting them.
