The Domine Battle

This is Sarah.

We made a terrible mistake with Domine. Four men are dead, including our Protectorate specialist. Jenny is in an undisclosed hospital because out of all of us she is the only one with an intact identity. I cannot comment on her condition for fear of helping agents to track her down, but it's bad. There are a distressing number of women in the state's different hospitals with a lot of different conditions and statuses. Josh is at a Protectorate safe house with the doctor that saved my life. Josh insisted that one of us tell you about what happened.

The thing that we called Domine was destroyed, but it didn't amount to a damn thing. It's been a number of long days since it happened. I don't feel like getting into the details about how we got onto Domine again. We caught up with his victims, a man leading a woman like all of the other times. We drew them off away from the public. Josh disarmed the woman. The instant he did that four men came out in pairs in front and behind us. They had shotguns. Josh got me out of the way. He threw one. Another pointed his gun at Josh who pushed the barrel aside as he fired. The shot hit a man behind Josh. He went down, his face a mess I'll never forget.

I've never been so frightened in my life. It wasn't just the violence. These men had all the emotion of someone patiently waiting for a bus. They weren't scared or angry or determined or even happy. It would have been better if they were anything. They were just there, breathing hard from the exertion or hitting a wall or the ground. Not registering anything. It's a good thing the dominated haven't remembered anything after the fact.

Domine was there. Myron hindered it as best as he could trying to command it even though it had no brain. The specialist shattered Domine, but not before Domine got around Myron's own defense and made him shoot the specialist in the back of the head. The specialist lay breathing shallowly for a long drawn out moment as Myron held his hand and watched him die.

Meanwhile Josh was forced to kill two of the remaining three men because they wouldn't stop. They just go back up with no sense of fear or willingness to stay safe. I couldn't press any emotion on them to make them stop. They were like frozen ponds. My emotion roiled under the surface then gone as soon as I stopped. Josh pinned the last disarmed man to a wall just off of the ground. That was when the man with the destroyed face shot Josh in the back. The man was dead. I was sure he was dead. He was a complete blank. Josh went down.

That was when Jack and Jenny caught up with us. Jack picked up one of the fallen shotguns and ran right up to the man who shot Josh. He pushed the gun against the man's hand and pulled the trigger. He blew away his other hand immediately after. Jenny ran to the remaining man and began punching him in the face over and over. He stood up like nothing was happening. She punched him in the throat and he choked and gasped but continued to try and fight back. She threw him into the wall and scooped up a nearby gun. Taking it by the barrel she cracked him across the knee with the wooden part with a sickening crunch. He crouched on the broken knee and tried to move forward. She was about to go for the other knee when more men showed up. They had with them two more Domine.

It was during our harrowing escape that they got Jenny. Again I can't say how, not even later after she comes home. I've gone on long enough. I've also neglected to mention until now what is wrong with Josh. He managed to remain conscious long enough to link his heart and lungs with mine. Then he was out, but a part of him kept us linked. The shot tore up his back. The doctor says he'll never use his right arm again. The nerves were all destroyed or enough to call it that. He likely won't feel anything from it again either. I have to go. Melvin will tag and post this for me. Keep Josh in your thoughts.
