The Finger is Mightier
I had a run in with Tommy Dearing of the O.S.I.R. I think I made a bit more of an impression than usual. It had to happen again sooner or later that our paths would cross. Just because he's not using massive resources to find me and bring me in doesn't mean he won't try when we show up to the same place. It doesn't matter what I was doing, just that Tommy and his team were there.
They thought that they had me cornered in a store. I'd apologize to the store owners if not for the safety issues. I pulled down a set of shelves in one aisle showering the agent hot on me with containers of cleaner. In another aisle I carefully clubbed another man with a spray can of something or other. Then I turned to find a big towering wall of muscle right immediately behind me. He had no idea what happened when I pulled his feet out from under him. I was amused by the whole thing despite the hammering of my heart and I stopped his head from slamming on the floor. I figured a bruised tailbone is enough.
It was outside that I saw Tommy. He came around the corner, gun drawn. He yelled for me to stop. I raised my left hand and waved my extended index finger back and forth through the air. Tommy made to fire when with my right hand down I made a gesture with my index finger. At the same time Tommy pulled his index finger out of his gun's trigger guard. The look on his face was priceless. I kept my finger extended and so did he. It's the polite way to have a conversation. Not that I had much to say.
He tried his usual talking points about how I was doing nothing but hurting people, both close to me and strangers. He's very passionate about how I'm undermining the world by breathing. If only he could see what he looks like spouting his brainwashed hatred. All righteous and puffed up with false nobility. You expect to see such simplistic spin doctoring only in movies aimed at younger audiences. It's really kind of pathetic. I might almost laugh if their intentions weren't so evil.
I dumped him in a big garbage bin and ran off. I could have added that that was how you take out the trash, but I didn't. It only came to me after I was long gone. Oh, and in case you were wondering I can only control someone else's finger so far. Maybe one day I'll work my way up to a hand. I also have to make the move myself. I'll take it.
