US military offers $40,000 challenge to internet users
also Mit Red Balloon Team Wins Darpa Network Challenge
- The first link details the contest (finished months ago) and the
second gives a little more information as well as the winner. The actual resulting knowledge would be more
interesting, but the speculation is worth its own time. The idea of crowd sourcing a problem and the
resulting patterns, behaviour, relationships and small scale politics is an intruiging one. A scenario like
this where the motivation is money will be different than when it is done for passion, out of fear, or
for less tangible gain, including scientific curiousity.
