The Chosen Child - Graham Masterton

Sarah Leonard is trying to build a new Senate hotel in Warsaw
Poland.  For all that she is known as the "Ayatollah", and other
names like "ball-breaker", she cannot get the work to go forward.
A man has been found beheaded inside a broken sewer pipe at the
site.  The man is the seventh victim of the serial killer dubded
"The Executioner".  Working hard on the case is a police detective
Stephan Rej who is getting nowhere on the case.  The victims seem
to be chosen at random.  The newest victim brings the first
possible clue, corruption in the Senate company for which Sarah works.
The other victims do not share that link though.  As the
body count continues to rise both Sarah is drawn into Stephan's search
in order to get construction back on schedule.

Graham Masterton is on the ball on this one.  It's full of
intruigue, suspense, and pulse-pounding terror.  The backdrop of
Warsaw is portrayed very well.  The use of the sewers as a
significant setting is done in just the right amount of detail.
The story draws the audience in by all five senses. The action
and pacing makes for a great page turner.  The terror is sharpened
to a series of nice sharp points.  The horror is mostly limited to
the physical though there are some really nice supernatural aspects to
the story.  The characters are excellently portrayed and given a
nice depth.  Both of Sarah and Stephan develop and grow nicely.
The Chosen Child is another masterful story of the Masterton
mythos.
